travel bookings: OTAs, hotels, airlines launch ‘festive’ offers to boost bookings further

Hoping to make the most of this month even as they see a week on week uptick in bookings, travel platforms, hotel chains and airlines are launching more sales and festive offers this year to boost bookings further.

For the first time, Cleartrip has partnered with Flipkart for the big billion days sale that goes on till October 10 and offers a flat 20% discount on domestic flights, a full refund on flight cancellations at Rs 1, and upto Rs 25,000 off on international flights among other offers.

Prahlad Krishnamurthi, chief business officer, at Cleartrip said the sale will also provide an opportunity for travelers to explore different domestic and international destinations.

“Over the last year, people have been restricting themselves to plan and book their travel in advance due to the ambiguity around Covid regulations and high cancellation charges. Cleartrip is set to bring back the convenience and flexibility of booking for their customers through deals like EzCancel @Re 1 during the sale days,” he said.

Krishnamurthi said the platform has seen a jump of almost 50% for both domestic and international flights and some of the destinations seeing increased bookings are Goa, New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Dubai and Maldives.

Prashant Pitti, co-founder at EaseMyTrip said the pandemic was tough for all and this year everyone wants to make the most of the arriving traffic. “That’s why various hotels and airlines are running more offers than last year. EaseMyTrip is running plenty of offers with various banks and wallets during this festive season across flights, hotels, bus and trains,” he said.

“Offers such as FestiveSale where users will get up to 25% off on all domestic flights are one of the most popular offers right now. Additionally, we continue to extend our free full refund on domestic flights in case our users cancel due to medical reasons,” he added.

Pitti said the bookings across flights, hotels and holidays are looking positive as the demand for travel has gone up significantly. “We have seen a jump of around 50% for our hotels and holidays businesses. There is a jump of between 15%-20 in our domestic flight bookings and there is a jump of around 25% for our international bookings,” he added.

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has launched the ‘Dekho Apna Desh Festivals by India, Stays by Taj’ offer which offers ‘special’ room rates and ‘festive’ amenities for bookings done till October 15 for stays uptil October 1 to January 15 next year. IndiGo is offering gift vouchers that are fully transferable, can be split across multiple trips, and valid for 90 days from the date of purchase.

Aloke Bajpai, co-founder and Group CEO at ixigo said while the demand for festive travel in October has seen encouraging growth across flights, trains and buses, his company is running offers with bank partners on ixigo apps and the website including the latest offer of upto Rs 1500 on domestic flights via Axis Bank Credit and Debit Cards. “We also have a Dussehra and Diwali offer of up to Rs 500 off on bus bookings on Abhibus app for the month of October,” he said.

Kanika Tekriwal, CEO and founder at JetSetGo Aviation said her company is working on creating packages to push sales this season. “The JetSteals programme allows our guests to experience private charters at a lower cost with the help of our empty legs offers and deals. These offers allow more accessibility to those needing to travel at a much lower price than usual,” she said.

Tekriwal said for the past one month she has started witnessing travel requests from families and friends who are looking to visit their loved ones during the festive season, especially during Diwali. “Requests from parents of students studying abroad are also pouring in. This month, we are also seeing a substantial surge in requests especially for leisure travel. People have restored their faith in travelling with the ongoing strong vaccination drive and opening of several popular international destinations for Indian travellers,” she added.
