Massive Restaurants considering expanding to US, besides Canada

Everstone Capital and Gaja Capital backed Massive Restaurants, which runs brands such as Farzi Café, Masala Library, Made in Punjab and Bo Tai is planning to expand to markets such as the US and Canada besides expanding through the cloud kitchen brands and more dine in outlets in India.

Managing director Zorawar Kalra said the demand recovery has been astounding, illustrating the strength in the fundamentals of the industry.

“The return to demand in places like Delhi has been over 90% of pre Covid levels. Mumbai is open only till 10 pm but is over 70% of pre covid numbers. Kolkata is back to pre-covid numbers. It shows that eating out is in the culture of the Indian people. It’s in their DNA. If you keep us open, even in the middle of the pandemic we can thrive,” he added.

The chain will expand to Canada through a Farzi Café in the middle of October and will have 25 operational cloud kitchens by the end of this year, up from seven currently. It will open its cloud kitchen brand Louis Burger, currently present in Mumbai, on October 15 in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram and has eight franchised Farzi Café outlets in the pipeline.

“We will have three more co-owned restaurants of brands such as Bo Tai, Swan and YOUnion operational in Delhi and Goa by December,” said Kalra.

He expects the Louis Burger virtual kitchen brand to be in four more cities by the end of November.

“We are foreseeing a 2000% increase in online sales From April 2021 to November this year. We have not raised any fresh funds. All the expansion is internally fueled. Farzi café and online cloud kitchens will be the biggest push. We are also building our own customised cloud kitchen management software,” he added.
