E-commerce platform Something’s Brewing is expanding its footprint to offline stores across the country. The company’s flagship store in Bengaluru will be its first outlet to be launched in October this year.

Following this the company expects to expand to another 30 stores of which five are likely to be owned by the company, said its CEO Abhinav Mathur.

The CEO says it costs approximately Rs 25 lakh to set up a store and believes that home brewers would like a physical space where they can brew different roasts and blends of coffee before making a purchase.

By next year, the company plans to set-up similar flagship stores in each of the top home brewing markets like Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Hyderabad. “Our total retail footprint by the end of next year is expected to be close to 30 stores,” says Mathur.

The brand is currently bootstrapped but in early stages of fundraising. About Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for this expansion, he adds.

“What started as a concept during the lockdown phase has now grown well in the last one year,” he adds.

According to Grand View Research, India’s retail coffee chains market was valued at $128.6 million in 2016. The research says increasing global exposure, western culture, and penetration of established coffee brands are anticipated to be the key trend driving the growth of the retail coffee chain market here.

The market is ever-growing than ever in India with the entry of international coffee brands such as Starbucks in 2012 with a joint venture with the Tata group. The Indian coffee retail chain industry has a decent mix of international as well as majority Indian brands surging upwards in the market.

Another report by ResearchandMarkets.com states that the Indian coffee cafe market is expected to register growth at a CAGR of over 12% during 2019-2024.
