Myntra to add 11,000 seasonal jobs ahead of festivals

Myntra is set to create the highest number of seasonal jobs ahead of the festive season. The Flipkart-owned fashion e-commerce player is hiring about 11,000 people to beef up its supply chain, including last-mile delivery and customer support, up nearly 57% from 7,000 last year.

“This has been the largest hiring drive ever at Myntra, for on-ground and customer support during any festive season, as we anticipate a strong demand across pin codes for their (customers) festive needs,” Myntra CEO Amar Nagaram told ET.

Festive demand for delivery and logistics is rising across companies each year, with the Covid-19 pandemic having no impact. At Flipkart, too, the supply chain hiring numbers have increased, to 115,000 this year from 70,000 last year.

Myntra, which is simultaneously expanding the kirana network to 25,000 stores, is expecting 70% of deliveries to take place through this network.

“The majority of the recruitment is being undertaken to enhance capabilities for last-mile delivery and therefore kirana store partners make up for the bulk of hiring,” said Nagaram

Myntra has added 30% more kirana store partners than last year as it is gearing up for the upcoming festive period, including the ‘Big Fashion Festival’. “The on-ground staff will play a pivotal role in offering optimal delivery to customers during this festive season,” said Nagaram.

Myntra’s supply chain network comprises Myntra Extended Network for Service Augmentation partners or kirana store owners and distribution centres.

Of the total last-mile hiring plans, about 7,500 are for its kirana network and close to 1,000 for its delivery centres (DC) across the country. The company is hiring for roles such as DC assistant, DC support staff and delivery staff.

A large part of hiring is for locations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune and Lucknow. Another 2,700 people are being hired for the contact centres.

During the ‘End of Reason’ sale in July, the kirana partners and delivery personnel were able to increase their income by about 200% on average, said Nagaram.

This year, during the peak delivery period, Myntra is also incentivising its frontline force with perks, including attendance bonus, over and above the regular salaries.
